Bento #166

Jaimie's bento for today. Mr Baoz. But Jaimie said she didn't like "the eyes and the moustache".

Haiz. Should have saved my effort.

Bento #164 - Bento #165

Nowdays mornings are very challenging and always very rush. That's because I am making 2 different bentos for both my love.

After the first bento Jaimie brought to school, there is no turning back. She said she preferred my bento to the breakfast provided by the school. When I asked her what did she like in her bento, she replied "EVERYTHING!!!! My friends said my mommy is super!!" WAHHHHHH~~~ how not to make bento for her like that? *bursting with pride*

Jaimie's bento -- strawberry jam and peanut butter bread.

Clement's bento -- egg mayo sandwich.

Making 2 different bentos require more time and planning... and I am not complaining. :)

Bento #163

After practicing for more than 2 years, FINALLY, this is the FIRST bento I made for Jaimie for her to bring to school!

Hurhurhur.

Nothing much, actually. I bought her the sausage bun to pack to school but she requested for quail eggs too. And since I have some strawberries in the fridge, I put them together and this is it. But I am now motivated to make her happy bentos in the morning!

I am sure Jaimie will be happy to eat her breakfast. I can't wait for her to come home this evening to tell me about it~~ heeheehee~~~

bento #162

Before I find out why my hotdog bun becomes all torn up when I put in the sausage, I will be spreading just peanut butter and kaya inside the bun.

Pineapple tarts and some CNY goodies in the bento too. Pineapple tarts home made by our neighhour Pauline. Nice tarts. And very nice neighbours!

Bento #161

I shamelessly call this a bento. But this IS my favourite lunch!!!! Lim Chee Guan bak kwa ROCKS!

Bento #157- Bento# 160

I have been making such simple and repetitive bentos that I feel no need to blog about them individually. So I am making a group entry for these bentos. :D

Bento #157 Egg and ham and cheese sandwich with 4 types of fruits!

Bento #158 Ham and cheese sandwich. Need to cut away the edges so that the sandwich can fit nicely into the sandwich box. Otherwise, you get squashed sandwich, as seen in picture!

Bento #159. Mushroom and chicken wrap again. This time, it's oyster sauce marinated chicken stripes fried with loads of onion. Much better than terriyaki chicken!

Bento #160: Spirals fried in Campbell mushroom soup, with added fresh shiitake mushroom and broccoli. I decided to add some apple cubes to see how it goes. Hmmm.. no value added.

Bento #156

Oil free healthy chicken wrap for today's bento!

(1) Blanch the broccoli. Cut the fresh shiitake mushrooms and marinate it together with the chicken breast stripe with terriyaki sauce (do it the night so that you can sleep for 30mins more the next morning) . Pan fry the chicken and the mushrooms. Set aside.

(2) While the pan frying is going on, use the time to dice the tomatoes and cut some Japanese cucumber into long stripes.

(3) When everything is ready, microwave the wraps. 10sec/ piece.

(4) Put the baby butterhead and the other ingredients prepared earlier onto the wrap. I microwaved the remaining terriyaki sauce from the marinating, dipped the chicken into the sauce before putting it to the wrap.

(5) Wrap it in foil. Got this really cute aluminium foil from Daiso some time back.

(6) Put in your greens and fruits into the bento box. It is recommended that the wrap not to be exposed to air after you have micowaved it. Hence, an air tight box should do the trick.
I put mine in a hello kitty none air tight box and it's still ok when I ate it for lunch. Clement's bentos are always in this plain, lock-and-lock box because he is still refusing to use my super cute bento boxes. Aiyah...

Bento #155

Pooh shaped nutella bread. Ultra simple.

Bento #154

Something mushy to dispel the Monday Blues...heeheehee~

Bento #153

More simple bentos for the week--hotdog. Seriously, I do not know how people stuff a sausage into the bun so nicely. Mine always end up in a mess because I had to use force to push the sausage between the slit.

Bento #152

The hotdog bun was initially stuffed with sliced strawberries only but I thought it might be too blend so I stuffed a slice of cheese inside. According to the guinea pig, he said it tasted great!!

Bento #151

I said I would be taking a break from bento making because of my hectic work schedule.

However, Clement's meal replacement for breakfast didn't seem to do him much good. We suspect it might be one of the reasons for Clement's first gastric attack last week. I told him to stay off the protein shake for a while and hence here I am again, waking up earlier to make breakfast bento for him.

I am trying to strike a balance between rest and food. So I'm giving up on the cutie stuff and make very simple breakfast for my hubby.

Bento #150

We are continuing with low carbo bento for Clement.
This is easy! Baked terriyaki chicken. Just throw them in the oven loosely wrapped in foil and bake at 180deg for about 1hr. For me, I wake up almost every 2 hours every night so I just have to push them in the oven at the 4am timing. By the time I wake up at 6am (no need to wake up at 5am, YIPEEEE!), the chicken fillet is all done. All I need to do is to open a can of baked bean, cut some capsicum and that's it!
After 2 days of low carbo diet, Clement stepped onto the fat analyser with fat hope. Of course, none of the figures even suggested the slightest dip.
2 daysssssssss only. What you expect!!! You think losing weight is such an easy task, huh!

Bento #149

Clement is into this lose-body-fat-mission. Having a low carb diet is one of the things he do. So I woke up at 5.45am to prepare this no-carbo bento for him-- stir fried spinach with ikan bilis and minced garlic, button mushrooms and a hardboiled egg. His starfruit and kiwi are in another box.
After all the cooking and cleaning, I was getting ready to go to work when I realised that Jaimie was running a fever! No wonder she wet her bed (MY BED, actually!!!!!) last night, talked in her sleep the entire night and woke up numerous times throughout the night.
Cranky and tired, she fell asleep almost immediately after she came home from the clinic.
Hope my baby girl gets well soon~~

Message from the Mad Robot:

Dearest Kinigu Blog readers,

Thank you for your support and interest in the Kinigu blog. This blog started as a family blog and this mad owner's intention is to document the growth of her daughter and her family's crazy activities. Her daughter is growing up at an incredible speed and she thought it is right that she should give her foolish daughter some privacy. Hence, she created a random blog http://kinigu-bento.blogspot.com/ whereby she will continue to share her nonsensical bento ideas and will keep this one private.

This cuckoo blogger is in the process of cutting and pasting the bento posts to the new blog. As she is an IT-idiot, she will need to sort medical help from a nutty professor to help her with the setting up of the new blog. Once that is done, this blog will be closed for private visitors only.

Thank you again, and see you in http://kinigu-bento.blogspot.com/

Bento #147

Since Clement is out of town for a week, I will pack myself some ultra simple lunch for a week. Alfafa sprout with cheese sandwiched with multi-grain and raisin bread, fruits and veg.
So healthy... until you read the next post.

Bento #146

Quite a heavy meal. Cheese and egg sandwich packed separately plus a lunchbox of fruits, veggies, simley potatoes and chicken nuggets.

I finally tried the Australian strawberries. Hmmm... they are not sour but they are not as sweet as the Korean ones. Strawberries are always a good-to-have in your bento box. The presentation brightens up because of the nice colour!

Bento #145

It's the exam period now and school is busier than most people think.

Teachers do not shake leg during the exam period. We raced against time to complete our marking, write remarks for ALL our students, tabulate results, doing year end review, propose budget for 2011 etc etc etc. Yes, you read me correctly. If you have 160 students, you have to write 160 comments. On top of that, there's on-going intensive lessons for the graduating classes who have had their prelims earlier on. It's a lot to handle. The only consolation is we can count down the days to December vacation.

Due to the heavy workload during this time of the year, I haven't had much energy to make bento nor try out the lunch punch which I got earlier. :( However, the recent readings Clement obtained from a fat-measuring test kept were definitely not good numbers and I have to help him watch his diet more carefully. Making bento for him is one of the ways to a healthier body. Hence, no matter how tired I am, I will try to make bento as often as I can from now on. For that, dear, I deserve at least another LV bag. Heh heh heh.

Baked chicken wings and cheese tofu bento. Plus my usual favourites of the greens and fruits.
I found a new way to separate the food -- use thin slices of lemon!! First of all, it gives a nice fragrance. Secondly, it adds colour to the bento. Thirdly, it helps to stop my apple cubes from oxidising! I put lemon slices on the baked chicken wings and it gave the chicken wings a hint of citrus! Nice!

Pleasant Surprises!

After the interview was published in Young Parents, I was very pleasant surprised to receive some enquires and order of my book "My Bento Stories". I was even more surprised when Grace from Simple Thots offered to send me a lunch punch to make my bento making even more fun!

I was so excited when I saw the parcel at my door today!

So cute, aren't they!!! They are going to make my bread so princessy and so delicious to the eyes too. I am sure Jaimie is going to LLOOOVVEEE it!

Can't wait to make sandwiches with them next week!!!!!

Thank you so much for the gift and the friendship, Grace!!!

Bento #144

Since the egg mayo with apple cubes was a big hit, I decided to make it again today. To my dismay, the Sunshine enriched white bread was smaller than my "pita pan". I couldn't seal my sandwich!!
AARRRGGGHHHH~! So I had to use a cling wrap to keep the fillings from falling all over the place.
Should have bought the Sunshine thick toast. I bought this because I get a free loaf of bread with 3 wrappers... I am an auntie, ok!

Bento #143

I have plain white rice, pan-fried cod fish, chilli chicken slices with ginger strips, tofu with fishcake topping and my usual favourite broccoli and honey cherry tomatoes.

Tofu with fishcake topping--肥雄
chicken-- mom
rice -- mom
cod fish -- self
veg and fruits -- self

A "well-balanced" meal of home-cooked goodness and delicious sinful food; maximum variety with minimum effort. Heh. I am such a genius~~

No cod fish for me because there's only 2 portions left in my fridge. I gave one to Clement and one to my colleage.

We have a new colleague in our dept who just joined us very recently. She is really young (compared to me~~) and left her home country to work in Singapore alone. She's not allowed to cook in her rented unit. A little bento is my way to show her my friendship as a colleague and as a Singaporean!
Wah~~

Young Parents 2010 Oct Issue!

I did the photoshoot on 2nd Sept and now the interview appeared on the October issue of Young Parents! :D

Bento #142

The "shocking face" was exactly how I looked when I ate my bento... because the black pepper chicken steak I bought from BBQ Express 2 days ago was tough as rubber after I microwaved it this morning.

Wrong choice.

Next time, I will bake my own chicken steak. It's not that tough at all. Literally.

Fruit of the day is peach.

Bento #141
